The Sweet were one of the most successful bands of the 1970s. Their catchy melodies and bubblegum pop anthems made them one of the most popular bands in the world. But behind the bubblegum exterior, there was a dark side to the band's story.

The Early Years

The Sweet formed in London in 1968. The original lineup consisted of Brian Connolly (vocals),Steve Priest (bass),Andy Scott (guitar),and Mick Tucker (drums). The band's early sound was heavily influenced by the bubblegum pop of the time, and their first few singles were all released on the bubblegum pop label, RCA Victor.

The Sweet In Their Early Years : The True Story Of The Sweet

The Sweet's first hit single was "Funny Funny," which was released in 1971. The song was a huge success, and it helped to establish the band as one of the most popular bubblegum pop bands in the world. The Sweet continued to release a string of hit singles throughout the early 1970s, including "Co-Co," "Little Willy," and "Block Buster!"

The Dark Side

Behind the bubblegum exterior, there was a dark side to the Sweet's story. The band members were all struggling with drug addiction, and their personal lives were in shambles. Connolly was particularly troubled, and he was often violent and abusive towards his bandmates and girlfriends.

The Sweet's Dark Side : The True Story Of The Sweet

The Sweet's drug use and personal problems began to take a toll on their music. Their albums became less consistent, and their live performances were often erratic. The band's popularity began to decline, and by the end of the 1970s, they were no longer one of the most popular bands in the world.

The Later Years

The Sweet continued to record and tour throughout the 1980s and 1990s, but their popularity never returned to the heights of their early years. Connolly left the band in 1982, and he died in 1997 from liver failure. The remaining members of the band continued to tour and record, but they never regained the success they had in the 1970s.

The Sweet's Later Years : The True Story Of The Sweet

The Sweet are one of the most successful bands of the 1970s, but their story is full of twists and turns. From their early days as a bubblegum pop band to their later转型为hard rock, the Sweet's music has always been catchy and memorable. But behind the bubblegum exterior, there was a dark side to the band's story.
