Early Years
The Ides Myers were formed in 1964 by Jim Peterik (guitar, vocals),Larry Millas (bass guitar, vocals),Mike Borch (drums),and Ralph Paul (keyboards). The band's name was inspired by the Ides of March, a Roman festival that celebrated the arrival of spring. The Ides Myers' early sound was heavily influenced by the British Invasion, and they quickly became a popular live act in the Chicago area.
In 1966, the Ides Myers signed with Capitol Records and released their debut album, "The Ides Myers." The album was a commercial success, and it spawned the hit singles "Vehicle" and "Roller Coaster." The band followed up with two more successful albums, "Beware!" (1967) and "Face to Face" (1968). However, the band's popularity began to decline in the late 1960s, and they were dropped from Capitol Records in 1969.
The 1970s
After leaving Capitol Records, the Ides Myers signed with Polydor Records and released the album "Fire and Water" (1970). The album was a commercial failure, and the band was once again dropped from their record label. Undeterred, the Ides Myers continued to tour and perform, and they eventually signed with RCA Records in 1974.
The Ides Myers' first album for RCA Records, "Ideology" (1975),was a critical and commercial success. The album spawned the hit singles "Mr. Machine" and "Lay Me Back." The band followed up with another successful album, "Point of View" (1976),but their popularity began to decline again in the late 1970s.
The 1980s and 1990s
The Ides Myers continued to tour and perform throughout the 1980s and 1990s, but they did not release any new studio albums during this time. In 1997, the band reunited for a one-time performance at the Chicago Blues Festival. The performance was a success, and it led to the band signing with Rhino Records.
In 1999, the Ides Myers released their first new studio album in over 20 years, "The Ides Myers Are Back." The album was a critical and commercial success, and it helped to reintroduce the band to a new generation of fans.
The 2000s and Present
The Ides Myers have continued to tour and perform in the 2000s and 2010s. They have also released three new studio albums during this time: "Ideology II" (2004),"Point of View II" (2007),and "Vehicle 40: The Complete Hit Collection" (2013). The band remains active today, and they continue to perform to sold-out crowds around the world.
Legacy
The Ides Myers are one of the most successful rock bands to come out of Chicago. They are best known for their hit single "Vehicle," but they have also released a number of other successful albums and singles. The band's music continues to be popular with fans around the world, and they remain one of the most enduring acts in rock history.
