Education

Italian women have made great progress in education over the past decade. In 2019, women made up 59% of university graduates in Italy, up from 52% in 2010. However, there are still some gender disparities in education. For example, women are less likely than men to study STEM subjects, such as science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Employment

Italian women have also made progress in employment over the past decade. In 2019, the female employment rate in Italy was 53.1%, up from 48.9% in 2010. However, there is still a gender gap in employment. Women are more likely than men to work in part-time or temporary jobs, and they are less likely to hold managerial positions.

Political representation

Italian women have also made progress in political representation over the past decade. In 2018, there were 33 women in the Italian Chamber of Deputies, up from 27 in 2013. However, women are still underrepresented in politics. They make up only 22% of the Italian Parliament, and only 10% of mayors in Italy are women.

Violence against women

Violence against women remains a serious problem in Italy. In 2019, there were 111 femicides in Italy, up from 93 in 2018. The vast majority of femicides are committed by intimate partners or former partners.

Italian women have made significant progress towards gender equality over the past decade. However, there is still much work to be done to achieve full equality between men and women in Italy. The Italian government and civil society need to continue to work together to address the remaining gender disparities and to create a more just and equal society for all.
